Product Preview: 2026 Topps Chrome Black

Product Preview: 2026 Topps Chrome Black

The mid to high-end Topps Chrome Black is back for the 2026 Product year. Topps dropped it's preorder on Topps.com on Monday, March 30th for $200 per box and it sold out immediately. If Topps could do nothing else abut their drops, at least stop the bots. I nor anyone else I've heard from were able to buy any. They're now selling for $330-$350 on eBay. While this is a big jump - I think after release we'll eventually see a jump to at least $450. Anyway, let's meet the product...

Format

This is a hobby-only product. Last year Topps added 2 packs of cards and they return in 2026, though with one less card per pack. Here's what's in the box

  • 2 Packs of 6 cards
  • 1 encased Auto
  • 12 Boxes per case

Base Set

The base set is 200 players long, and is up from 150 last year. Given this growth and 1 less card per pack - this product has likely seen print runs significantly increase. Last year each one of the packs contained a numbered card or SP - I hope this continues despite the print run increases.

This also includes all the biggest rookies from the 2026 products - Athony, Schlitler, Basallo, Eldridge, Caglianone, Jensen, Misiorowski, Chandler, Tong, McLean, Yesavage, etc.

Inserts

While we don't have odds, I don't expect any inserts in this product to be "common." They should all be, to varying degrees, short-printed.

  • Rookie Design Variation
  • Damascus - NEW!

  • Nocturnal
  • Depth of Darkness
  • Home Field - NEW!

Autographs

With one encased auto in every box, autos are the big chase of Topps Chrome Black. The Base auto checklist is 111 players long (similar in size to last year's checklist of 107 players).

SP Autos

Without odds, we don't know how short-printed these are, but I expect them to be SPs.

  • Ivory Autos
  • Pitch Black Pairings (Dual Autos)
  • Super Futures Autos (Rookies & 2nd year players)
  • Paint It Auto
